Nick Alvarez is a Managing Director and National Practice Leader of Alvarez & Marsal's Private Equity Performance Improvement Group. With 15 years of corporate advisory, operational improvement and interim management experience, Mr. Alvarez focuses on assisting private equity sponsors with due diligence and post-acquisition performance improvement.

Mr. Alvarez has deep expertise in assessing financial statements, business plans, working capital requirements, capital expenditure requirements, operational and organizational reviews, valuation and capital structure, as well as in developing and implementing First 100 Day plans and 13-week cash flow projections – often serving in leadership roles on these projects in either an advisory or interim management role.

Some of his most recent assignments have included providing pre-investment due diligence on a large apparel manufacturer with global operations; pre-investment due diligence on a beverage paper packaging company; pre-investment due diligence for a large U.S. real estate investment trust (REIT); and post-investment performance improvement services on a trucking dealership. Mr. Alvarez's notable financial advisory assignments have included two New York-based hospitals; a large U.S. plastics packaging company; a large U.S. bottling company; a large public kitchenware supplier with domestic and foreign manufacturing facilities; a large public industrial rental company; an insurance claims processing company; a slip cover company; a plumbing company; and a water beverage company.

Mr. Alvarez has also served as interim Chief Financial Officer of Treofan Group, one of Europe's large chemical plastics packaging companies; Chief Restructuring Officer of a $250 million publicly-held provider of telecommunications infrastructure services; acting divisional Chief Financial Officer for London Fog's Pacific Trail division, a $100 million division coat and jacket manufacturer; and SVP of Operations of Wherehouse Entertainment, a $750 million music retailer. He was also a member of the A&M teams at Exodus Communications, an Internet co-location provider; German jet aircraft manufacturer Fairchild Dornier's U.S. subsidiary; Bridge Information Systems, a $600 million provider of financial information and data to the financial services industry; Epoch Networks, a $40 million broadband telecommunications provider; Cherokee Apparel, a jeans and tops apparel manufacturer; Fedco, Inc., a $600 million regional general merchandise retail chain; California Mart, a 100,000 square foot office building that leases to apparel suppliers and manufacturers; Integrated Resources, a diversified financial services company; and a representative for the retiree committee in US Air's Chapter 11 bankruptcy case.

Mr. Alvarez earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and a master's degree in business administration from New York University, Stern School of Business.
