Mr. Abell co-founded GSC Partners in 1994 and has served in a variety of senior management roles, building the firm from inception to a global, diversified $8 billion alternative asset manager. Mr. Abell was previously a Managing Director of The Blackstone Group, based in Hong Kong and Tokyo from 1990-1994, where he headed Blackstone’s Asian private equity business and advised multinational clients on investments in Asia. Prior thereto, he worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. from 1986-1990. Mr. Abell serves on the Board of Directors of the National Committee on United States-China Relations and the Board of Governors of The New School for Social Research and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is also the Founder and Chairman of China Interactive Media Group. Mr. Abell graduated with Honors from Brown University with a B.A. in 1979, and from The Wharton School with a M.B.A. in 1986, and from the University of Pennsylvania with a M.A. in International Studies in 1986 as a Fellow of The Joseph H. Lauder Institute of Management & International Studies, with a concentration on China. Mr. Abell speaks Mandarin Chinese and has studied at the Beijing Foreign Language Institute and the Taipei Language Institute. |
