Wallace Mathai-Davis
Co-CEO
ChinaVest

Wallace Mathai-Davis is Co-CEO of ChinaVest, Ltd., a merchant bank headquartered in Shanghai with offices in Beijing and San Francisco. ChinaVest, Ltd. provides corporate advisory, capital raising and cross-border merger and acquisition services to Chinese and non-Chinese companies. ChinaVest, Ltd. is the successor to ChinaVest, a private equity fund, which invested in Chinese companies for more than twenty years. Before founding ChinaVest, Ltd. with Robert Theleen and Jenny Hsui, Mr. Mathai-Davis was a member of the Board of Directors of Mercantile Bancshares Corporation and Chairman of that company’s investment and wealth management business which comprised a diversified investment business of $43 billion in discretionary and administered assets. Prior to that, he was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Offitbank where he was a partner for sixteen years. Offitbank was recognized as a leading independent asset manager and private bank with $17 billion under management in seven offices, including a representative office in Hong Kong. Offitbank was sold to Wachovia Corporation in 1999. Mr. Mathai-Davis has over twenty-five years of experience in emerging markets and has been active in investments in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Mr. Mathai-Davis graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts maxima cum laude. He holds an M.A. (1972) and a Ph.D. (1974) from Princeton University. Mr. Mathai-Davis has been active in the eleemosynary sector for many years and serves on the boards of various non-profit institutions.
